NEW YORK — A Kennedy Airport terminal was partially evacuated after a fire broke out inside an escalator Wednesday morning, FDNY and Port Authority officials said.

A small blaze erupted in the escalator at Terminal 8’s Concourse C about 7 a.m., Port Authority officials said.

As smoke spewed out of the escalator about 100 people in the immediate area were evacuated to another section of the terminal.

The FDNY put out the fire in a matter of minutes.

Terminal 8 returned to normal operations within an hour, a Port Authority spokeswoman said. Departing flights were briefly impacted but have since resumed.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

Terminal 8 is the arrival and departure points for 11 U.S. and international airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways and Quantas.
